Wallpaper hanging instructions for various types of wallpaper

Wall Preparation:

• Walls should be clean and smooth.
• Plaster walls/ceilings: Prime with oil-based primer and size.
• Latex, semi-gloss, or enamel walls: Sand and prime with oil-based primer.
• Plasterboard walls: Seal and size.
• Lining paper is recommended for all walls..

Wallpaper-Specific Adhesives:

• General Wallpapers: Good quality wheat paste or non-staining cellulose paste.
• Vinyl Papers: Good grade of pre-mixed vinyl adhesive.
• Tempera Papers (Watercolors): Cellulose paste. Handle with care, as it's not washable. Water/soil resistant treatment is recommended.
• Foils and Metallics: Vinyl adhesive. Dry trim and apply adhesive to the wall to avoid creasing/cracking. Sweep paper down and outward to prevent bubbling/wrinkling.
• Burlap, Textured, or Craft Papers: Pre-mixed vinyl adhesive.
• Grasscloth: Use a top quality, non-staining adhesive or one specifically for delicate wallcoverings. Full instructions are included with each roll. Do not over-wet. Vacuum cleaning is recommended.
