    • Origin: Countries like Italy, Brazil, Germany, USA, South America, Argentina, Holland.

A Retailer's Glossary:

  • A-Aniline: Top-grain leather, aniline dyed with no additional coloring, but may have a protective treatment like Teflon. Also called full naked, natural, or unprotected aniline.
  • P-Protected: Top-grain leather, aniline dyed and coated with matching pigment and/or other topical finishes for color evening and added protection. Also called aniline-plus, finished, or protected aniline.
  • N-Nubuck: Top-grain, aniline-dyed leather buffed to create a soft nap. It is more vulnerable to stains and often has light protective finishes. Not suede. Also called chaps, distressed, or bomber.

Cleaning Codes:

  • I (Spots & Spills): Blot, do not rub, excess liquid immediately. Let air dry. Stains will dissipate over time.
  • II (Spots & Spills): Blot excess liquid. Apply a mild solution of non-acidic soap and water, rub front to back or side to side (not circles), cleaning an area larger than the stain. Wipe clean with a damp cloth, rub in one direction, and air dry. Repeat for stubborn stains. Distilled water is an option.
  • III (Spots & Spills): Blot excess liquid immediately. Apply a mild solution of non-acidic soap and water to the stained area. Rinse with a moistened cloth or sponge. Repeat if necessary. Absorbed oil will dissipate.
  • IV (Spots & Spills): Blot, do not rub, excess liquid immediately with a clean white cloth or sponge. Let air dry naturally. Brush with a suede brush to remove excess material and restore the nap. For unnoticed stains, use lukewarm distilled water and a soft white cloth to gently massage the stain and surrounding areas. DO NOT USE SOAPS.

Specifications:

  • The document notes that no two leathers are alike due to varying grain structures, leading to different penetration of dyes and finishes and attractive variations. Uniformity is not always possible.
